What We Do
The community council is here to provide a voice to the local community. The local Councillor and Community Police Officer both attend the meetings. Falkirk representatives are also invited to speak on local issues.
The objects of the Council shall be:-
To ascertain, co-ordinate and express to Falkirk Council and to public authorities, the views of the community which it represents in relation to matters for which those authorities are responsible:
To take such action in the interest of the community as appears to it to be expedient and practicable;
To safeguard and promote the best interests of the community and to foster a community spirit;
The Council shall be non-party in politics.

Current Projects
In 2013, the community council asked residents to fill in a survey about their likes and dislike and aspirations for the village. This information has gone to create our action plan to try and achieve the aspirations of the residents of the village. You can find a copy of our action plan here.
We are working with Falkirk Council to improve the main park and turn it into a centre piece of the village. So far the path upgrade. Further improvements will include picnic tables and seats, more play equipment, wild flowers, general improvements to the park entrances. We are working closely with Muiravonside Country Park and FCT to create a community growing area and help create a community orchard. We are working with Falkirk Community Trust to upgrade the welfare football pitch by improving drainage and finding funding to upgrade the changing rooms. An orphaned land project is underway to improve the area around the shops. We received a grant from Keep Scotland Beautiful for this project and will be working with a number of local groups. We are working with CVS falkirk to promote the help that is available for local groups. The community council are in the process of starting up a Development trust for the village so that even greater projects can be taken on. Plans to buy the firestation to use as a community hub for employment, healthcare and many other uses are being drawn up. This year Maddiston Community Council entered the It's Your Neighbourhood scheme run by Keep Scotland Beautiful. |
What we have achieved
We have worked with local Health Authority to get a Health Visitor to visit the community centre once a month. Received 105 trees from Woodland trust to encourage biodiversity around the burn area of Valley Park. We organise nature events such as our big bird watch and badger watching We now have a war memorial in the village We provided free cycle helmets and booster seats to all children of Maddiston Primary School. We have provided local toddler groups with booster seats. Organise a regular litterpick for the village We contracted HEROS to build a path and establish a safe route to school. We have obtained funding for high visibility Police patrols in the village as well as establishing the installation of a traffic calming speed sign. We arranged for yellow lines to be painted outside the school gates before the road was adopted. We provide funds to other community groups, such as toddler groups and the swinging sixties, for outings and parties. We contracted Community Services to clear the ramp at the Old Folk's Hall. A plaque was funded for the local History Group. A playpark was built for the children of the community using a £25k reward by Fairer Scotland. We also got a path built that runs from the Community Centre to the park. We organise an annual Christmas Carol Concert We have made objections on the village's behalf to unsuitable developments in the area. We supported the establishment of the local pharmacy. We donated an XBox Kinnect to the youth club. We established the Tesco bus route trhough Maddiston. |
As you can see the Community Council has achieved many things that have benifited the local community and will continue to support the village in many ways.
